College recruiting email templates
Template 1: first email to a college coach
Use this the first time you write to a program. Send it to the coach who recruits your position (see who to email).
Template 2: follow-up with new results
Reply to your first email (so the coach sees the thread) when you have something new: a stat, a video, a schedule.
Template 3: after a camp or clinic
Send this within a few days of a college camp, ID camp or clinic, while the coach still remembers you.
How to make a template your own
- Write the "why" line yourself. One specific, true reason for each program. It is the part a template cannot do for you.
- Use the coach's name and the right school. Double-check both before sending.
- Keep your numbers honest and current. Coaches verify stats on film and at events.
- Send each email to one program. Never list coaches from different schools in the same email.
For the full process, see how to email college coaches.
Questions, answered
What should the subject line of a recruiting email say?
Your grad year, position, one standout stat or measurable, your GPA and where you are from, for example: 2028 OF | 6.7 60-yd | 3.8 GPA | Columbus, OH.
Can I send the same recruiting email to every coach?
Use the same structure, but personalize every email: the coach's name, the school, and one specific reason you are interested in that program. Send each email to one program at a time.
How soon should I follow up with a college coach?
After a week or two, or sooner when you have news such as a new stat, an updated highlight video or an upcoming event. Reply to your first email so the coach sees the whole thread.
