How to get recruited at a cheer camp

A camp is a tryout the coaches already agreed to watch. Treat it like one.

  1. Email the coach before you registerTell the position coach you are coming, with your grad year, position and highlight link. Coaches walk in with a short list; be on it.
  2. Pick camps where you are a realistic fitA prospect or ID camp at a school that recruits your level beats a famous one that does not. Check the program's roster openings at your position first.
  3. Know the words"Prospect" and "ID" camps are evaluation camps for recruits. "Youth", "skills" and "team" camps are instruction, not recruiting. Showcases are run by third parties with college coaches attending.
  4. Verify dates and price on the official pageEvery listing here links to the host's registration or camp page. Schools change dates, add sessions and sell out; the official page wins.
  5. Follow up within 48 hoursThank the coach, mention one specific thing from the camp, and ask what they would like to see next. That email is the one that turns a camp into a recruit.
